Chronic inflammation has been linked to some of the deadliest diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, strokes and cancer. A huge contributing factor is poor diet, with a few foods in particular being the worst offenders.

1. Fried Foods

Inflammation is the body’s response to a perceived infection. When you cook food at a high temperature it produces advanced glycation end products. These the body views as foreign compounds, producing inflammation.

2. The Three “Ps”

The 3 p´s stand for processed, packaged and prepared foods. Foods in this category usually contain lots of harmful oils, trans fats, sugar and additives like MSG, which damage the body’s cells and create inflammation.

3. Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oils (especially corn, soy and sunflower) contain dangerous amounts of omega-6 fatty acids which cause inflammation. Olive oil, which contains more of the beneficial omega-3 fatty acids is far healthier for the body.

4. White Bread

White bread contains a lot of refined carbohydrates, which the body rapidly processes into glucose, spiking insulin levels in the process. This environment creates inflammation, however a 2012 study in the Journal of Nutrition found that whole grain flours actually lowered inflammation.

5. Cow’s Milk

The lactose and protein in Cow’s milk make it one of the most inflammatory foods. Unfortunately, the skimming process actually makes it even more inflammatory.

6. Alcohol

When alcohol is consumed the body creates toxins that damage the liver cells which inturn causes inflammation.
